ACTS 29 and TALBOT SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY

Acts 29 is collaborating with Talbot School of Theology to offer a fully accredited Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry & Leadership, all through a cohort model tailored for leaders of Acts 29 churches. This degree is ideal for pastors and ministry leaders who want to expand the breadth of their theological knowledge, hone their ability to properly interpret the Bible, deepen their competence as preachers, and be challenged to take their ministry leadership to the next level.

PROGRAM DETAILS

This program is 49 credit hours and will be offered as a hybrid program. A hybrid program is a mix of in-person class experiences and online course work. In-person experiences will take place either at locations best suited for the cohort to meet (we’ll send faculty to you for a few days) or at Talbot on Biola University’s campus in southern California.

Sample classes:

  • Hermeneutics and Bible Study Methods
  • Expository Preaching
  • Evangelism and Follow-up
  • Pastoral Care and Counseling
  • The Church and Contemporary Society
  • Biblical Leadership and Management

Online classes are highly interactive both with the faculty teaching the courses and with the other students who are in the course. We couple engaging, high-quality video lectures with interactive discussion methods like synchronous video discussions (Zoom).

If students consistently take two courses per term (fall, spring, and summer), the degree can be completed in two and half to three years.

PERKS FOR ACTS 29 PASTORS

  • Study with other Acts 29 pastors/ministry leaders in a closed cohort to contextualize what you’re learning with others who understand that context.
  • Take advantage of pre-scheduled meeting times (like the national conference) to advance your degree.
  • Have some of your prior ministry experience evaluated for credit toward the degree. If prior learning credit is granted, this will reduce the number of classes you need to take to finish. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

COSTS

  • Application Fee: $65, but fee is waived for the Acts 29 cohort (using the code ACTS29)
  • Enrollment Deposit: $100
  • Tuition estimate: $12,500 per year for 6 classes per year – average is 3 years
  • Course fees (for retreats and ongoing spiritual direction): $1000

*All the costs mentioned here are subject to change. The cost of books and other course-related materials are not included.

TESTIMONIALS FROM ACTS 29 CHURCH PASTORS

While Acts 29 gave me a missional and theological tribe to run with, Talbot provided me with a solid biblical and theological education to build on. That great foundation translates into longevity and steadiness in effective gospel ministry. Together, Acts 29 and Talbot have been used by God to equip me to plant a successful, enduring and growing church where people come to faith and disciples are made to the glory of God.

David FandeyThe Fields Church

My Talbot professors gave me a profound respect for the word of God, driven by a Christ-centered pursuit of the heart of God. It was a Talbot professor who first gave me a vision to plant churches that plant churches. I’m still reaping the benefits of my Talbot experience many years later.

Matt DirksHarbor Church Honolulu

In an increasingly pluralistic society, it’s clear to me what the church needs more than pragmatism is the skill to proclaim the whole Gospel with precision and delight. It’s a foundation I depend on daily, and I have only Talbot to thank for that.
