Turkey Conference
24 – 27 April 2023

Colosse, in present-day Turkey, was one of the first towns to have a Christian community. They were surrounded by competing syncretistic or hostile philosophies which threatened the church’s existence. Paul wrote to them to tell them that the gospel was bearing fruit in all the world.

The gospel was going to be the triumphant philosophy of the ages, and at the Centre of the gospel was a person – Jesus Christ. Paul writes to them to remind them that in the gospel they have all of Christ, for all of life, in all the world. There is nothing better. So join us in Antalya, Turkey. Follow in the footsteps of Paul. Follow the gospel he preached.

Day 1:

Thursday, 27 April

Hierapolis & Laodicea

Spend the morning enjoying the Turkish countryside as you make your way to the ancient city of Laodicea, a picturesque reminder of the “lukewarm” church.
After enjoying the local cuisine for lunch, take a bit of time to explore Hierapolis, the land of hot springs and the illusion of snow. As you make your way to Sardis, stop to visit Philadelphia, the city of martyrs.

Day 2:

Friday, 28 April

Sardis, Philadelphia, Thyatira, & Pergamon

Enjoy Sardis, the place of myriad faiths, creeds, ethnicities, and empires. Witness how the Temple of Artemis collides with a Byzantine church building. Then, take some time to enjoy Thyatira, where Paul established a strong Christian community through his ministry. Then sit back and relax after lunch as we take a drive to the sweeping views from the Acropolis of Pergamon, the city of mythological mystery.

Day 3:

Saturday, 29 April

Smyrna & Ephesus

Start your day with Smyrna, a principal city of the Roman Empire vying for the title “First City of Asia.” Spend the rest of your morning enjoying the ancient city of Ephesus, where the Apostle Paul’s School of Tyrannus unleashed the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Asia. After Ephesus, enjoy local cuisine in the picturesque village in nearby Sirince. Then, you’ll visit St. John’s Basilica and witness one of the world’s oldest baptismals. **This tour begins in Antalya and ends in Izmir.**

Day 4:

Sunday, 30 April

Patmos (Optional Extension)

Enjoy your morning on a 2.5-hour chartered cruise from Kuşadası to the Island of Patmos. Explore the most famous monasteries on Patmos, including the Cave of the Apocalypse, which tradition holds as the writing place of Revelation. Enjoy some time to wander the narrow streets and whitewashed houses of Chora, one of the best-preserved ancient settlements in the Aegean. Round out your evening in Patmos with a traditional feast at a pleasant Greek taverna followed by a cruise back to Kuşadası. **This tour begins in Antalya and ends in Izmir.**

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Travel

Do I need a visa to travel to Turkey?

To confirm if you need a visa visit the Turkey Electronic Visa Application website, consult with your local Turkish embassy or with your travel agent.

Where is the nearest airport and how do I get from the airport to the hotel?

The nearest airport is Antalya Airport. It has the airport code AYT. The hotel is approximately 30 minutes from the airport (depending on traffic). Taxis are available at the airport throughout the day and will cost around 400 Turkish Lira ($21). Please check if the taxi accepts credit cards before commencing your journey. UBER does not operate in the area.

What weather can I expect and is there a dress code?

The average high temperature in Antalya in April is 21ºC (69.8° Fahrenheit). We have no specific dress code at the conference. Most of the indoor spaces will be air-conditioned. Wear what you feel comfortable in. For the evening meal, you may wish to dress a little smarter.

What if my flights are cancelled?

We recommend that you take out travel insurance that will reimburse you if, for whatever reason, you are unable to travel.

Accommodation

Which meals are included?

The conference is full-board. All meals are buffet-style and are included, starting with dinner on Monday evening and ending with breakfast on Thursday morning. Breakfast includes a tea/coffee service. Additional drinks at lunch and dinner are extra. Water is free of charge.

Can I come earlier to the conference or stay on?

The Acts 29 group reservation is only for 24-27 April. Additional stays should be booked directly with the hotel by sending an email to Mr Poyraz Akinsal at the Crowne Plaza Antalya . Accommodation is subject to availability. Mention that you are with the Acts 29 group.

Do I have to stay at the same hotel?

We have chosen this specific location in Antalya because it allows a group of our size to have accommodation and meetings in one place. Feedback from previous conferences has confirmed that the majority of people come to be able to network and meet with other like-minded people. Staying in the same place where we have our meetings is intended to facilitate this networking.

Conference & Registration

The cost is still quite high for me, is there help available?

As a group, we have been able to get a good deal with the hotel and have added only a small amount to the total to cover additional expenses.

We do have a special arrangement for those living in Turkey who need financial assistance to attend. Please contact kerem@acts29.com directly to discuss if this applies to you.

Can I donate to help others attend the conference?

Yes! You can click here to donate, OR you can add a donation at the end of the booking process. Your gift will be used to help Turkish church planters to attend the conference.

Is the conference just for lead pastors or can I bring other people from my church?

The conference is designed with church leadership and church-planting teams in mind. Why not come to the conference with your team? We will be offering many practical opportunities to develop mutually beneficial partnerships between our member churches.

What if I am travelling with my spouse but they do not wish to participate in the conference?

We understand if you want to bring other family members to this beautiful location, who may not wish to participate in the conference. The conference is full-board for 3 nights, so all guests must register for this time. Due to contractual restrictions, we are not able to offer a “meals only option” or a “room only option”.

Is there a children’s programme?

Typically, we do not encourage young children to come to our conferences. If you are travelling with a baby, please let us know during the registration process so we can prepare your room accordingly.

Will there be books for sale?

There will be books available in the Turkish language. There will also be some surprise giveaway books.

Are there any additional charges I should be aware of?

Drinks (other than water) will have to be paid for at the time of purchase using a credit card or charged to your room.

What is your cancellation policy?

We recommend you take out travel insurance.

A full refund will be given for bookings cancelled within 48 hrs of booking. Bookings cancelled before 5 March will be given a 50% refund. Any cancellations made after 5 March cannot be refunded, but the option will be given to donate your reservation. All cancellations will incur a 10 € administration fee.

In case of full cancellation by the hotel, all payments (minus transaction fees) will be reimbursed.
