Network: Church in Hard Places

Speaker: Acts 29

Acts 29 is a diverse, global family of church-planting churches.

By God’s grace, we have become increasingly global over the past few years with many churches planted and churches joining our family from across six continents. Yet for all our growth, the challenge of diversity remains. We want to ensure our churches are filled with men and women of different ethnicities and races, from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and contexts. We want to see churches planted which are reaching inner cities as well as the suburbs, projects and estates as well as apartments and detached houses.

We long to see vibrant churches established in the slums, favelas, townships and areas of mass social housing.

We long to see vibrant churches established in the slums, favelas, townships and areas of mass social housing led by indigenous leaders. To become this truly diverse family, we need to act. It is not going to happen simply by some sort of natural process. We need to honestly admit that some of our methods and structures, our training, assessing and networking with one another have unintentionally excluded different people in different ways, not least those born and raised in environments of poverty and exclusion.

This is precisely why we are launching ‘Church in Hard Places’. Doug Logan and Mez McConnell are seasoned practitioners in planting churches and training leaders among the socially marginalised, which is why these are the men to direct this work. The aim is to identify, mentor, train and resource leaders who are working in those parts of our towns and cities that are all-too -often forgotten.
